The Super League Split Round got underway with a Thursday Night thriller as a derby classic unfolded between West Yorkshire rivals Wakefield Trinity and Leeds Rhinos.
There was late drama at a sold-out DIY Kitchens Stadium, where Mason Lino became a Trinity hero as he slotted a last-play drop goal to snatch the victory and in turn boost his side’s Play-Offs hopes.
It was one try apiece in the opening half with Lachlan Walmsley crossing in the corner, before Sam Lisone stormed over for the visitors.
Each side also kicked a penalty goal each, locking in the scores at 8-8 heading into the break.
Their high-quality affair continued in the second half and the gripping action was just as tight as it had been in the first.
Chances went begging for both teams, but it was Leeds who finally seized an opportunity on the 66th minute as Jarrod O’Connor powered through multiple Wakefield defenders to touch down.
That looked to be the set match-winner, until Lino produced a peach of a pass to Matty Storton who crashed over to level things up once again.
The match entered a nail-biting drop goal territory – and as Brodie Croft agonisingly missed a drop goal attempt for the Rhinos, Lino had success at the other end – sending Trinity’s best home crowd in over a decade into absolute raptures and his side back into the top six (15-14).

On Friday, Wigan Warriors reduced the gap at the top of the Super League table with a 28-18 win over Catalans Dragons.
The Warriors built-up a three-score advantage in the first forty with tries from Jake Wardle, Jack Farrimond and Kruise Leeming.
The Dragons responded well with three converted second half tries from Cesar Rouge, Tommy Makinson and Alrix Da Costa but two tries in the final 20 minutes from Zach Eckersley and Brad O’Neill were enough as the Warriors secured a crucial victory on home soil.

On Saturday, Hull FC missed the chance to move back into the Play-Off positions following a disappointing home loss to Huddersfield Giants.
The Black & Whites were well beaten by the Giants at the MKM Stadium after Luke Robinson demanded a response from his players - and what an impressive team performance it was.
First half tries from Adam Swift, Joe Greenwood and Jake Bibby put the visitors comfortably ahead at the break, before scores from influential playmakers George Flanagan and Tui Lolohea wrapped up the win.
Lewis Martin completed a Hull hat-trick in defeat.
